The Padded Hemp Menlo Park Computer / Messenger Bag offers lots of padding to protect your laptop
along with
very strong buckles and zippers to keep everything in its place. The interior of
the bag has several pockets, a water resistant interior
lining and an adjustable padded shoulder strap. An interior
padded divider envelope holds your laptop securely. This divider
provides an added layer of protection and creates two sections on either side
for folders, books and additional items.

Fair Trade natural hemp fiber bag is handmade by small women-owned cottage
industry cooperatives. We work directly with the people that make these items.
We help them source supplies like zippers, rings and buckles, and provide
feedback on designs and offer suggestions to improve quality. The weavers and
members of these organizations receive a fair wage and additional benefits such
as bonuses, paid leave, medical benefits, and retirement plans. These
cooperatives improve the quality of life in their communities by providing
employment for socially and economically disadvantaged women.
The hemp fabric that is typically used grows wild in the lower Himalayan
Mountain regions. It is not cultivated or farmed. The villagers in this region
cut the hemp down by hand and soften the hemp in water without the use of
chemicals. The stalk of the hemp plant is then brushed into a wool like material
and then spun by hand into a strand of twine. The twine is then woven by hand on
a pit loom into pieces of fabric. The fabric pieces are carted down the
mountains on foot and make their way into the hands of the craftswomen who make
these unique and beautiful handbags.
