Each bed breaks down easily into its individual components for easy moving. Clean lines and strong joints make a well built piece of furniture that will last a lifetime.

Each maple platform bed is constructed with Pacific Coast Maple, a natural warm honey-colored maple, grown with integrity in sustainably managed forests of Washington and Oregon. To highlight the natural beauty of this distinctive hardwood, each piece is finished by hand with our special tung oil formula. For those with chemical sensitivities, the hardwood can be left unfinished in its natural state. No toxic glues are used in the construction of these well-designed, handcrafted maplewood platform beds.

The clean, simple lines of the Arts & Crafts Maple Platform Bed design give this bed charm and style. The head and footboards come assembled with mortise and tenon joints throughout. The Arts & Crafts Maple Platform Bed comes with a sturdy platform of closely spaced fir slats attached with jute webbing and bolstered by a center beam (except twin beds). The platform supports a futon, foam, or innerspring mattress.

Box Spring Option: (you supply the boxspring):
The box spring version of the Arts & Crafts Maple Platform Bed differs from the picture shown above. The rails on the box spring bed are attached at a lower position on the posts. Four slats support the box spring and mattress. (Not available in low footboard option)

Footboard Options:
There are two options available for the footboard. Our standard Arts & Crafts Maple Platform Bed footboard looks very similar to the headboard, with both top and bottom cross rails, and vertical slats spaced throughout. Optionally, you may order a much shorter footboard with two simple cross rails and no vertical slats (see picture on right). This shorter footboard makes sitting at the end of the bed much more comfortable. This option is available at no additional cost. (Not available in boxspring version)

Extra Slat Upgrade: Are you concerned about needing extra support and smaller gaps between slats for your mattress or futon? Our platform beds are already made with futon, mattress, and foam pad requirements in mind and are built to offer sturdy support throughout. However, we also offer an optional "Extra Slat Upgrade," which simply increases the number of slats on your bed to create an even sturdier surface with smaller gaps between slats.

Slat Height Option (not available on box spring version): The standard height from the floor to the top of the slats is approximately 14-1/2". This leaves approximately a 1/2" to 3/4" lip from the top of the slats to the top of the side rail (This lip keeps your mattress from sliding off the frame). As an option, you may choose to lower the slats by approximately 1", leaving you with 13-1/2" from the floor to the top of the slats, and approximately a 1-1/2" to 1-3/4" lip from the top of the slats to the top of the side rails. This option allows the mattress to sit deeper in the frame, and works especially well for taller mattresses (standard mattresses are generally 8" tall).

Optional Maple Underbed Drawers come fully assembled with sliding dovetail joints. These free-standing drawers roll easily on straight-line casters. Dimensions are 24" wide, 9" high, 25" deep.
