-------------------------

This ingeniously designed solid wood bookcase is not only the perfect way to store your favorite paperback or hardback books but cd's, dvd's, vhs movies and more. Designed to mirror the tree from which it's wood comes, the side panels widen at the bottom and then taper to form a root-like base. This 5-shelf bookcase makes the most of your space and can easily be used alone or grouped for a complete storage system. The upper four shelves are approximately 5 inches deep and can be adjusted up or down by the inch for versatility. The uppers shelves adjust along pre-drilled holes, spaced in 1 inch increments,  in the sides of the bookcase, and are held securely in place by work screws. The stationary bottom shelf widens to approximately 6.5" while the widening base design allows for ample storage room under the bottom shelf for larger books.

  • Finish: The Southwestern furnishings are finished with a hand-rubbed Linseed Oil. You may also request unfinished or finished with a Dark Linseed Oil (available oak only--additional fee). For persons with chemical sensitivities, we recommend ordering unfinished and applying your own finish.
  • Wood: You have a choice of either second growth solid American Red Oak, second growth solid Eastern Maple or solid Moso Bamboo (strips of Bamboo are laminated together into solid boards).

Overall Dimensions: 7-1/2"depth x 20"width x 53"height (shelf dimensions listed above). The Nomad Bookcase works best with baseboards 5-1/4" or shorter.

More About Bamboo:
Bamboo is another ecologically friendly and beautiful choice for your platform bed frame and furnishings. Since Bamboo is a grass, Bamboo grows and matures much quicker than a tree. Within five years of sprouting, the walls of the culms (the Bamboo stalks) will have thickened and hardened and will be ready for harvest. That means every year 15 to 20 percent of the forest can be harvested without clear cutting. Compare that to a hardwood forest and you will see that Bamboo is a very productive and sustainable plant material for making furniture. Unlike quick growing pine (aka "trash pine") trees that many timber companies have planted in place of native trees and forest, and take at least 25 years to grow large enough to harvest for pulp or cheap framing lumber, Bamboo grows quickly and has fine building qualities. Bamboo is also very hard--harder than rock maple, which is one of the hardest of North American trees. Using Bamboo means less dings and dents and a more durable product. Since the very straight culm is split and not sawn, there are no curls in the grain, which means Bamboo is much less likely to break.

Our Bamboo boards have a beautiful exotic look and are available in standard (very similar in color and shade to Eastern Maple) or caramelized (which is similar in color and shade to our Red Oak). Both are available in Linseed Oil finish (darken the color only very slightly--mainly the Linseed Oil protects the Bamboo) or unfinished. Bamboo boards are constructed by laminating strips of Bamboo together in order to create strong dimensional lumber for building fine furniture. This is a very effective way to construct Bamboo lumber. However please note, although rare, small cracks may sometimes be present and are considered normal in laminated Bamboo boards. These cracks, if present, will not be over 1/32” in width and will not affect the structural integrity of the furniture. New Bamboo may have a slightly grassy scent which should dissipate over time.
